FEATURING RON HOLLOWAY
ON TOUR WITH RON HOLLOWAY...
Holloway combines passion and a broad dynamic range to generate an exciting and distinctive sound...Like [Sonny] Rollins, Holloway strives to push the tenor sax beyond the limits of its dynamic range. He notes that the instrument was originally designed to play a range of two and a half octaves. By using special fingering techniques, Holloway can hit registers spanning almost five octaves. Holloway demonstrates his extraordinary range while maintaining precise control over a melody. As Holloway hits the highest register, Dr. [Billy] Taylor remarks, "That’s amazing to me". -- NPR.org
RON HOLLOWAY began his collaboration with BOBBY THOMPSON in 1995 when they first played together in various blues band incarnations. Fast forward to 2010 when Ron made a guest appearance on Bobby's first solo album, and starting back in 2015, Ron became a featured member of the group. In the summer of 2016, following a stellar performance at the 21st Annual Columbia Pike Blues Festival, Ron recorded on a new single for the group, and is working with Bobby on a new release in 2017.
Ron also fronts his own group, The Ron Holloway Band, and is a frequent guest member of groups like Gov't Mule, Little Feat, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and many others.
